What Is Custom Gear?

Custom Gear means your racing suit is designed and tailored to your exact body measurements—not based on generic size charts or standard patterns. This is critical for professional motorsports including Sprint Car, Drag Racing, Circle Track, and any discipline requiring SFI compliance.

Unlike off-the-rack suits that use approximate sizes, a custom-fit suit ensures every seam, panel, and contour is positioned perfectly for your body. This eliminates bunching, gaps, and restrictions that can affect your performance and safety on the track.

Diagram showing chest measurement
Point A

Point A. Chest circumference

To ensure your racing suit fits properly, measure around your chest by standing up straight with your arms relaxed and taking a deep breath. Wrap the tape measure below your armpits and around the fullest part of your chest, making sure it lies flat against your body. The tape should fit snugly but not too tight. A correctly measured chest ensures your racing suit feels like part of you.

Diagram showing waist measurement at belly button
Point B

Point B. Waist circumference

Stand straight with your feet close together and wrap the measuring tape around your waist at belly button height, keeping it snug but not too tight—just enough to slip a finger between the tape and your body. The tape should stay level all the way around your torso.

Diagram showing hip measurement
Point C

Point C. Hip circumference

Measure around the widest part of your hips while standing straight with your feet together. Keep the tape measure level all the way around and snug but not too tight—leaving just enough space for comfort and mobility. This measurement is crucial for sitting comfortably in the driving seat.

Diagram showing thigh measurement
Point D

Point D. Thigh circumference

Kneel on one knee to relax the muscle, then wrap a tape measure around the widest part of your thigh, keeping it flat and level. The tape should be snug but not tight. Accurate thigh measurements help ensure you can operate the pedals comfortably.

Diagram showing neck measurement
Point E

Point E. Neck circumference

Measure your neck by standing tall and relaxed, placing the tape measure where your neck meets your shoulders, and wrapping it around the base of your neck. The tape should be snug but not tight. If your measurement falls between sizes, round up to the nearest half inch.

Diagram showing shoulder width measurement
Point F

Point F. Shoulder Width

Measure the distance from one shoulder corner to the other across your back. Stand naturally with your arms relaxed. Have a friend place the end of a tape measure on one shoulder and stretch it straight across to the other.

Diagram showing back width measurement
Point G

Point G. Back Width

Measure from armpit to armpit across your back. Stand naturally with your arms relaxed and have a friend place the tape measure at one armpit, stretching it straight across to the other. The tape should stay flat against your back.

Diagram showing sleeve length measurement
Point H

Point H. Sleeve Length

Start at the point where your shoulder meets your arm and measure down to your wrist bone. Keep your arm slightly bent, as you would when holding a steering wheel, and ensure the tape follows the natural curve of your arm.

Diagram showing bicep measurement
Point I

Point I. Bicep circumference

Measure the widest part of your upper arm (bicep) by flexing your arm slightly and wrapping a tape measure around the largest area. The tape should lie flat against your skin, snug but not tight.

Diagram showing forearm measurement
Point J

Point J. Forearm circumference

Keep your arm relaxed by your side and wrap a tape measure around the fullest part of the forearm, making sure not to compress the muscle. The fit should feel comfortable and allow full movement.

Diagram showing calf measurement
Point K

Point K. Calf circumference

Kneel on one knee to relax the muscle, then wrap a tape measure around the widest part of your calf, keeping it snug but not tight. Accurate calf measurements ensure your race suit tapers correctly and looks sharp.

Diagram showing upper torso length
Point L

Point L. Length 1 – Base of Neck to Belly Button

Measure from the base of your neck down to your belly button. Stand upright and relaxed. The tape should follow the curve of your torso without being tight or loose.

Diagram showing lower torso length
Point M

Point M. Length 2 – Belly Button to Crotch

Measure from your belly button (waist) down to just below the crotch. Stand upright with a relaxed posture. This ensures the suit sits comfortably in the lap area while driving.

Diagram showing inseam measurement
Point N

Point N. Length 3 – Inseam

Measure your inseam from just below the crotch down to your ankle. Stand upright with your legs straight and relaxed. Run the tape measure along the inside of your leg.

Diagram showing full suit height
Point O

Point O. Length 4 – Suit Height

Measure from the point where your neck meets your shoulder at the front down to your ankle. Stand upright. This measurement ensures the suit covers your entire body correctly.
